Australian Prime Minister John Howard has stepped in to call for an end to the popular reality series 'Big Brother' due to an alleged sexual assault between three contestants.
Howard has called for the program to be taken off the air following the incident in which two men were evicted from the house for allegedly holding down a fellow contestant and rubbing her face in their crotches. The incident was not broadcast on Australian television.
The two contestants involved in the scandal have so far been kicked off the show.
"Here is a great opportunity for a bit of self-regulation and to get this stupid program off the air," Howard said on Australian radio.
"It is just a question of good taste."
Although police were called in to investigate, they said that they would lay no charges over the incident.
Meanwhile, opposition Democrat senator, Andrew Bartlett, has accused the Howard of unnecessary intrusion.
"It is politicians trying to be Big Brother that we really need to be concerned about," he said, reports Britain's the Independent.
