Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is considered the most irritating actor in movies, according to a poll by British film bible, Empire magazine.
The star fought off competition from Jennifer Lopez and Julia Roberts to win the questionable accolade, but conversely triumphed in the same poll, to be named the biggest movie star of all time -- beating veterans Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
Cruise, who is set to marry pregnant fiancee Katie Holmes next year lost credibility with fans after seemingly dedicating 2005 to making outrageous declarations of love for Holmes.
Kate Winslet was named favorite actress, while Steven Spielberg was named best director.
A spokesman for Empire Magazine says, "Voting Tom Cruise as the most irritating film star may be a knee jerk reaction to his year in the spotlight."

A historic home bought by rocker Courtney Love about eight years ago is up for public auction to satisfy debts in a foreclosure case, the Thurston County sheriff's office has announced.
Love, who was married to the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, purchased the gabled bungalow for his family in 1997 and now owes about $367,000, including the loan balance and legal fees, to WMC Mortgage Corp. of Los Angeles, which filed for foreclosure in Superior Court.
The house on 13 acres at the edge of Capitol Forest near Littlerock, about 10 miles south of Olympia, was built in 1903 and is currently occupied by Cobain's sister, Kim, sheriff's records show.
County sheriffs handle foreclosure auctions in Washington state.
According to documents filed with a lawsuit in October 2004, Love quit making mortgage payments in December 2003. The lawsuit identified Love as a trustee of the Courtney Love family trust.
The troubled rocker is reportedly considering selling her rights to the back catalogue of her late husband Kurt Cobain and Nirvana.
Gossip site PageSix.com reports the former Hole frontwoman is having financial problems following a string of legal wrangles and has valued the Nirvana rights at $100 million.
The news is expected to upset Cobain's former bandmates Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Chad Channing, who have sued Love for control over Nirvana rights and for their entitlement to royalties.
