"Dog" the Bounty Hunter has legal victory

Attorneys for TV reality star Duane 'Dog' Chapman on Friday said the Mexican federal court has granted them an order that halts the criminal case against Chapman until further evidence and witness testimony are gathered.

U.S. Marshals arrested Chapman here on Sept. 14 along with his son Leland and another associate after Mexico issued a warrant because of his capture of fugitive convicted rapist Andrew Luster, the Max Factor heir, on June 18, 2003, in Puerto Vallarta. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

Chapman was released on $300,000 bail after spending a night in a federal detention center. He and his crew have been facing extradition to Mexico since then.

At a circus-like news conference Friday, the star of the popular A&E show 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' said the 'tide is changing a little bit.' His side of the story, he said, is finally being told to the court through his lawyer, William Boller, who spent the past month in Mexico.

'If it comes out right, would I do it again? Your damn right,' Chapman said.

The possible extradition has ignited an uproar among members of Congress and Chapman's fans, who consider him a hero for capturing a rapist and doing a job the government could not. Twenty-nine congressmen have sent a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asking her to deny the extradition.

Wake up Mexico to the fact your women were saved from violation by this sexual predator who evaded justice its a well known fact they do re-offend maybe he has done along the line who knows!
and rape can turn to murder,
Why has it taken 3 years as well!!
Applaud and reward the Chapmans not punish them Why not ask his victims what they think,

I think Dog is a hero as are his brother and son...... Its crazy that he has to face charges when he was only protecting woman from a violent, sexual preditor. Andrew Luster would not have stopped and he had a hit list so to speak... what makes you think he wouldn't carry out the acts he listed... Thank you Dog and family for all you have done and continue to do.... God bless you all and i pray that the government will back you and end this silliness once and for all...... You are all in my prayers.

I honestly believe that the Mexican government needs to "Wake the Hell up." The should be thanking Dog,Tim, and Leland for capturing that bastard. Beth my prayers are with you and the rest of the Chapman family. Once again for the Mexican government "Wake the hell up" and thank the guys.

Dog and his family are the real American's! They live as all of us should, by keeping the LOVE in our family, and keeping the trouble away. But he can not do this if he is sent to jail. And I'm sure that if something bad was to happen to someone higher up and they needed Dog to hunt that bad person, they would not send him and his family to jail. Arresting bad guy's should not be against the law in any state or country. That's why half of the U.S. go to (Mexico) to get away from the Law!!!! Pam

Ride On Dog Chapman, if these mexican idiots can't figure out what a hero you are for finding this scum, then the Mexican government needs to be looked into for further charges for a safe haven for crimminals. Dont worry Dog, God will be with you thru thick and thin and you WILL prevail. Our government knows and the citizens of the USA know.

Ride On Dog

its about politics. Illegal immigration and other U.S./Mexican issues has led them (Mexico) to bring up any higher profile "dirt" they can. Its pretty sad, but if Dog wasn't on T.V., this prolly wouldn't have even been a problem. The Mexican governemt should worry about poverty and pollution levels and make they're country a place where their citizens want to stay.
