Survivor's Richard Hatch talks about life in prison

The winner of the first season of "Survivor" says adjusting to life in prison has been difficult.
Richard Hatch, 45, was sentenced to 51 months in prison for failing to pay taxes on his $1 million "Survivor" winnings and other income.

He entered a minimum-security jail in Morgantown, West Virginia on July 25.

Hatch tells The Dominion Post, "I'm doing lots of intake stuff, like clothing and getting to know the place ... but I don't think I will adjust to any of this until I can prove I was unethically prosecuted."

During his trial, the judge said Hatch repeatedly lied on the witness stand.

He says he plans to tutor inmates, help them pass their GEDs and further their job-hunting abilities.

Hatch says, "Sure, people know my name ... there are 1,300-plus inmates who think they know me, so it's an interesting experience."

He adds, "They all have questions - want to know what this experience is like and what `Survivor' was about."

Hatch says he will spend his time in prison writing about his experiences on "Survivor" and his legal troubles.

He says, "I'm focused on writing what has gone so terribly wrong."
