Hip-hop star DMX was involved in a road accident on Sunday when his vehicle was struck from behind while overtaking another car.
DMX -- real name Earl Simmons -- was traveling on the Hutchinson River Parkway in New York when he pulled onto the hard shoulder in a bid to dodge a traffic jam.
Westchester County Police Commissioner Monte Long tells AllHipHop.com, "There was congestion on the parkway, and he apparently was driving on the shoulder to avoid it.
"When he pulled back onto the right lane, the other driver didn't have time to stop.''
Neither vehicle was damaged in the incident, but DMX was issued with a summons to Harrison Town Court on July 21 for illegally driving on the hard shoulder.
DMX, who is already due to appear in White Plains City Court on Friday after being caught driving over the speed limit on June 2.
Last year, DMX served 70 days in jail for violating his parole following a 2004 incident in which he posed as an undercover federal agent and crashed his vehicle through a security gate at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.
A week after he entered a guilty plea, state police accused him of driving over 100 miles-per-hour on a New York freeway.
Last month, the hip-hop star was arrested in London after allegedly becoming abusive on a flight from New York City.
