Dave Chappelle is back – and is opening up for the first time about the "tough times" he's going through.
The runaway comedian – who ditched his $50 million Comedy Central contract last year and went off on a spiritual retreat to South Africa – has taped a session with Bravo's Inside the Actors Studio host James Lipton, which is slated to be aired Feb. 12. Excerpts from the show reveal a thoughtful, still funny and sometimes unmistakably scared Chappelle, who will also appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show Friday.
"I'm going through some real tough times, some nitty-gritty stuff," a jovial, smoking Chappelle, 32, tells Lipton, reports USA Today. "When you go through things like this, it helps to put it all in perspective. I'm famous today. People like me today. Might not like me tomorrow. You can't count on it. The world can't tell you who you are. You've just got to figure out who you are and be there, for better or worse."

I love you Dave. You sweet sexy thang. I bought your two DVD's. I agree with you: I would have taken some time off too, so I could sell more DVD's. Otherwise, you might have been over exposed. Freddie Prinze needed some time off. And look what happened to him. You are great and what you do. I appreciate you. I treasure you and your work. I am glad that you are smart as well as handsome.
