Dr Julio Iglesias Puga has died in Madrid following a heart attack.
Born in 1916, Dr Puga was one of the youngest gynaecologists employed by the Spanish National Health service, and one of the first to study painless childbirth.
Founder of Madrid's Maternity Centre, he was kidnapped by ETA in 1981 and held in the town of Trasmoz (Zaragoza) for almost a month until he was rescued in a police operation.
He is the father of singer Julio Iglesias.
